Synopsis

In Southampton, England, Isla Bennett an American schoolteacher, boards the Queen Mary 2, a luxury ocean liner bound for New York, ready to enjoy her annual weeklong respite from real life. Also on board is the acerbic British Professor Edward Blake, a guest speaker relocating to take a new job in America. Travelling with Edward are his dear friends Vivian and Oliver who use Edward’s move as an excuse to come along for a holiday. Isla and Edward clash immediately at his lecture over their disparate views on education. But amongst the glamour, formality and nightly dancing on the ship, their battle of wits transforms into a genuine romance – until Isla discovers Edward’s political ties directly threaten her livelihood. As the ship approaches shore, the pair must decide if their budding romance can overcome their ideological divide.
